Can Aromatherapy Help With Skincare?

By March 14, 2018 No Comments

Using essential oils and aromatherapy is certainly nothing new, it has been around for thousands of years. Essential oils have been used by many ancient cultures for all of the benefits they provide. Much of the history of using aromatherapy has been lost to time but there are still enough ancient manuscripts available to show that herbs, plants, and oils were used in this way to help heal the body and rejuvenate it. This is true in many areas of health but it is also seen in everyday skincare.

How can essential oils help with skincare?

When most people think of aromatherapy, usually the first thing to come to mind is the relaxing scents that help to calm the mind and the body. In reality, those same essential oils are also put into a variety of skin care products. This has been true for many years. Many cosmetic companies have developed exclusive cosmetic lines utilizing these oils. When you choose an all-natural aromatherapy product, it will produce the desired skincare benefits without the artificial ingredients.

The skin is more than just a covering for the human body; it is a living part of the body and is the largest organ. Essential oils are easily absorbed through the skin and affect the lower skin layers. They can even enter into the body, and into the circulatory and lymph systems. When using all-natural products, you don’t typically need to be concerned about the possibility of side effects. That being said, it is important to use high-quality oils and to ensure that you are using them properly.

It is very important to be very careful in applying aromatherapy oils to the skin. Lavender can quite often be applied neat or directly to the skin. Sometimes, however, aromatherapy oils may be a little too strong for the skin and they could cause a rash or another type of reaction. Diluting those oils by using a carrier oil, such as coconut or olive oil is beneficial in this regard. The proper oils can be applied to the skin directly so that all of the benefits can be experienced.

It is also important to note that not all aromatherapy oils are going to serve the same general purpose. Regular use of certain oils will benefit the skin. However, there are others that are beneficial for specific types of skin, such as antiaging oils. There are essential oils specifically for oily skin and some that are for dry skin.

It may take some time for you to see the full benefit of using aromatherapy oils with regular use. You can then begin to experience everything that those oils have to offer, including clear, youthful and healthy skin along with a pleasing scent that helps to calm the body.
